Hi all,

I just added a full report of my visit to the Bulgarian Air Base Plovdiv-Krumovo to my website http://www.fly-by.nl
Here you will find shots of Bulgarian Mi-17's, Mi-24's, Bell 206's and a Cougar.

Here is a small impression of what to expect.

Hi Rob,

Cool report and photos, I also visited your homepage. Interistingly you mentioned that Mi.24V '142' first flew after rework in Sofia on 18.11.2015. Landing in Sofia that day I saw a Hind near the hangars in Sofia, serial fully covered, but paint looking fresh, like Mi.17 '417' in your photos. Next afternoon it was still there, again refeused being identified, serial covered. Unless they have more than 1 Hind in this stage of rework you may have solved a problem for me ;o)

Best regards
Martin

Thanks!

As far as I know, only one Mi-24 was seen outside the TEREM facility at Sofia-Vrazhdebna so far.
And that was indeed the "142".

A total of four Mi-24V's should be overhauled. Don't know the other serials.
Bulgaria had only six Mi-24V's, 140, 141, 144 and 146 were noted in April at Krumovo. And the whereabouts of 143 are unknown.
So don't know which will be the other three.

Best regards Rob

Hi Rob,

Thank you for the additional comment. Indeed it seems that 142 is the one I saw.

The Scramble database shows 121 having first flown with TEREM Sofia in May 2015, and as being sold to the civile market (N____). In October I was caught by surprise during take-off when I noted a Mi.24, located a bit further away from the hangars. My desparate photo did not allow identification though.

And I found an intersting youtube link:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrO5HbbTeTU

The color scheme of the flying one, no serail on in June at leaast, meets the one I saw on 18. November, while the photos during take off and with bad light in October make it impossible to say whether it was the same Hind.

Maybe time will tell more ...

Best regards
Martin
