Santa Lucia Air Base, Mexico day 2 (pics)

Post by stipjes »

On Sunday we left for Mexico City. The goal is to take some pictures of the a/c that participate in the annual parade over Mexico City. Especially the F-5E and Boeing 727. They fly from Santa Lucia. Today was an orientation day (we forgot Scramble 10-10 with Wim Sonneveld article on this happening) but there was some activity. Tomorrow the parade will be held (we hope). Fingers crossed for the weather.
The Casa flew in from another base. There are many on the platform:

The 727 flew 3 circuits including 3 take offs. There are 5 in total on the platform:

Two Tigers flew 5 circuits around the base and landed:

Lets hope for a F-5F tomorrow, but these are great too:

The Mil left never to return, there is 6 in total on the platform.

This ex Israëli Herk took of after some testing in the morning:

The flight was very short and seemed unsuccesfull with one enige turned off while landing:

Hope you like them and I will try to show more if tomorrow is succesfull!

I doubt it. If its anything like it was when I went, you are sharing the perimeter wall with hundreds (thousands?) of Mexicans...

How odd! I seemed to be the only one there in 2006...

Saw dozens of people at (and on) the perimeter wall in 2008.

Santa Lucia Air Base, Mexico day 2 (pics)

Post by stipjes »

Thanks for the nice comments.
Last teusday was the day of the parade over Mexico City. All participating a/c take off from Santa Lucia. A lot of people gather oround the base on the outside of the fence. The pics above are taken on Monday, there was nobody around then. The Base has some poor areas around it so take care. You should be more afraid of robbers then the Police. The parade day feels very safe. Everybody is smiling, eating, drinking and watching aircraft.

When you drive there take into account is takes a long time, there are speed bumps every 200 meters for 20 km's.... The Highways nearby do not seem to have exits.... Its a 4A challenge ;-).
For good opportunities see Wim Sonnevelds article in Scramble's october 2010 edition (which we forgot to read an take ;-)).

The light conditions where bad. Still we managed to take some nice shot. But since I am not a good Photoshopper they might look a bit grey or whatever. I just hope to give an impression on the day.

Beautiful pictures !!!

Strange that these two F-5's have similar but still different camouflage patterns.
