[CIV][MIL] Oregon tour 20-04-2014

Post by Nebbor »

Today I visited a number of airfields in Oregon. First was Salem where the Oregon National Guard is stationed:

Gate guard

Five Medevac Blackhawks could be seen but not read or photographed.

Bell407

Next stop was Eugene, the Oregon Air & Space Museum. Unfortunately it was closed... Outside a MiG17 and a Huey could be seen. Two other hulls of Huey were seen but they wre in awefull condition and almost completely dismantled

Engine fire, read more here: http://www.cigaraficionado.com/webfeatu ... -MiGs_7597

After this I went to Newport where the USCG has a detachement. Unfortunately nothing to be seen. OK, next airfield then: Albany. Here some interesting aircraft could be seen:

N2460S, Cessna T337C
Image

A big surprise were 3 Skyhawks.....

...and an old Queensflight Heron

That made up for the long drive. I was told that 2 A4's will be gateguards, the other will be be uesd as a very large wind vane(!).

Last airfield today was Aurora. At first nothing to be seen but at the last leg of my tour around the field I saw this:

ex Swedish airforce 76

N238CH Boeing Vertol 234
Image

CH47D 0-000198 (?)
Image

N192CH Boeing Vertol 107

Not the best pictures but no good photo opportunities were possible.

Should read as 90-00198/98K. This one was previously reported as stored here and apparently being converted for the civil (firefighting) market.

Nice report and great catch on the HKp.4! I was fortunately able to catch it in Sweden in 2012 before it went to the US.

There was nothing more to be seen there that was worth making a photograph for. The place was deserted except for the 5 distant Blackhawks and the Bell 407. I hope you have more luck when you're going.

That for sure is a fake serial, as the real 149652 was shot down over Vietnam. So far I only know one serial of the three more or less for sure. I have seen a picture of one Skyhawk with its AMARC code 3A646 on the nose, which would make it 152012.

The original plan by the way, was to place all three Skyhawks along the road as if it looked like they were taking off. That was at least 4 years ago though.....

Or a misread serial :)
They are all ex AMARG, and arrived in 2007:

149653 12 Douglas A-4E [3A740] Sep07 Apr14
(151050) 14 Douglas A-4E [3A646] Sep07 Apr14
152012 Douglas A-4E [3A741] Oct07 Apr14

Or a misread indeed :-)
Please confirm your serials and AMARC codes, as far as I know the 152012 had 3A646, not the 151050 (but I can be wrong too of course ;-) )

Type error, Andy had it right:
Image

AMARC code reads 3A740.

Thanks for the other serials Andy, nothing to be found on the two airframes to indicate their identity. It is the '14' though, not ' 12' .

Whoops, I had two of the AMARG codes transposed, thanks for pointing that out.

149653 12 Douglas A-4E [3A740]
(151050) 14 Douglas A-4E [3A741]
152012 Douglas A-4E [3A646]

I'm pretty sure that 149653 was 12 at AMARG though. Perhaps they have made some composites.
