Statistics for LHR-RTM on BA

Post by XYZ »

On 9 December 2012 BA opened the route LHR-RTM-LHR 3x/day with A319/320 aircraft.

The question is....How is this route performing and what competitive impact does it have on LCY-RTM, LHR-AMS, LCY-AMS and other routes.

Here are the data from the UK Civil Aviation Authority for passengers carried in Dec 2012 and Jan - Febr. 2013.

BA on LHR-RTM-LHR:
- Dec. 2012 = 5.962 or on average 45 pax/flight
- Jan. 2013 = 6.392 or on average 36 pax/ flight
- Febr. 2013 = 7.139 or on average 42 pax/flight

CityJet on LCY-RTM-LCY:
- Dec. 2012 = 7.892 or on average 22 pax/flight (9.289 pax in 2011)
- Jan. 2013 = 7.446 or on average 21 pax/flight (8.729 pax in 2012)
- Febr. 2013 = 8549 or on average 22 pax/flight (9.805 pax in 2012)

LHR-AMS-LHR:
- Dec. 2012 = 119.670 (123.288 pax in 2011) This indicates that BA is stealing pax. from its own AMS flights, as well as from KLM.
- Jan. 2013 = 99.713 (105.963 pax in 2012) This indicates that BA is stealing pax. from its own AMS flights, as well as from KLM.
- Febr. 2013 = 98.671 (105.524 pax in 2012) This indicates that BA is stealing pax. from its own AMS flights, as well as from KLM.

LCY-AMS-LCY:
- Dec. 2012 = 27.429 (30.655 pax in 2011) Remember easyJet is very successful on SEN-AMS-SEN which is new and competes as well.
- Jan. 2013 = 27.180 (30.218 pax in 2012) Remember easyJet is very successful on SEN-AMS-SEN which is new and competes as well.
- Febr. 2013 = 28.560 (31.381 pax in 2012) Remember easyJet is very successful on SEN-AMS-SEN which is new and competes as well.

It is up to you to determine whether BA is being successful on its new route LHR-RTM, as yields could be terrific! Who knows?

The reduction of the pax numbers between AMS and LHR could also be a result of the European financial crisis and is not neccessarily due to a new LHR-RTM market as suggested.
KLM are flying smaller aircraft (F70/E190) into LHR for a reason I would think......

Mwah, it's still quite early to judge if the route is succesfull.
Given te current situation due to the financial crisis i would say that BA is not doing bad at all on the RTM route, the growth rate is good up till now. However there is (of course) still room for improvement, more pax are required in the long term. And i am confident that those passengers will come.
BA has the strategic the uper hand. Esspecially when the economy pics up, they will double benefit from their pressence in both Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

The figures of March are now online:

BA on LHR-RTM-LHR:
- Dec. 2012 = 5.962 or on average 45 pax/flight
- Jan. 2013 = 6.392 or on average 36 pax/ flight
- Febr. 2013 = 7.139 or on average 42 pax/flight
- March. 2013 = 8.425 or on average 46 pax/fllight

that´s a nice plus.
And the flights on the route AMS/LHR also seem to have plus compared to previous year.

BA are actually about to start a big campaign to get pax figures up on RTM-LHR, by promoting easy connections to holiday destinations in the US and Caribbean.

So loadfactor now around 50 %. That's not too bad. It still needs to grow.

correct:
Dutch only http://www.refdag.nl/nieuws/economie/br ... n_1_738042
the growth figures are very good. But a extra boost is always welcome. BA is aiming for a loadfactor of around 75%.
I don't have any doubts that they will achieve this goal quite soon (within this year).

This evening I saw for the first time a new special BA commercial on the regional tv station RTV Rijnmond. Promoting the 3 daily flights from RTM to LHR.

My calculation for the average pax per flight is slightly diffrent than yours:

- Dec. 2012 = 5.962 or on average 45 pax/flight
- Jan. 2013 = 6.392 or on average 36 pax/ flight
- Febr. 2013 = 7.139 or on average 42 pax/flight
- March. 2013 = 8.425 or on average 46 pax/fllight
- April. 2013 = 10.370 or on average 63 pax/flight
- May. 2013 - 12.826 or on average 75 pax/flight
- June. 2013 = 10.868 or on average 68 pax/flight

Maybe you have not taken in account hat there are only 2 flights on the weekend days as from april
the actual average of passengers per flight could be slightly higher as 1 or 2 flights per month are cancelled.
