Romania 17-20 July

Post by Jaap »

It seems that some Meetings Aerien Militar (Ziua Aviatiei) are organised this week:

17 July: Borcea/Fetesti
20 July: Campia Turzii
20 July: Timisoara
20 July: Bacau/Baza 95

Lacking every knowledge of the Romanian language, it seems to me that the Fetesti event will include the based MiG-21s and MK based helicopters
Daca sunteti interesati, pe 17 iulie
(joi), are loc ziua portilor deschise la Baza 86 Aeriana Fetesti.
miting aviatic oficial), alte cateva treceri ale formatiei, parasutisti
(probabil), unu-doua elicoptere de la MK, bere, mici, etc. Asa ca va
asteptam cu drag

There were some 7 Lancers at Fetesti, with quite a nice diplay. Also a IAR330 from MK, on static expo, whice took off after the show was over, and performed some nice tricks. There were 2 Lancers on static display, the IAR330 I've mentioned before and some AA guns and radars. Also we were able to get into the tower, and also we got to see the retired Lancers and the Harbin H-5 (chinese Il-28 ), which was not on the schedule, but we got away with it.
The shows from Timisoara, Bacau and Campia Turzii will also feature Lancers and maybe some IAR99 and the Pumas.

Here's a (huge) photo gallery from the event at Fetesti:

and smaller ones from Timisoara:

and

Campia Turzii:

In the last place is notable the (re)appearence of some Pumas, upgraded to IAR-330 M standard (so-called Puma Nato) with terrain-following radar in the nose, chaff & flares dispensers, nav-com suite, L/RWR receivers and cockpit identical to those of the Puma Socat - serials 34, 87, 92 and 97. Besides, classic transport version Puma #91 and #99 (the latter recently re-pained in the Socat scheme) and Puma Medevac #49 in non-standard paintscheme.
At the Romanian Airclub's airfield at Clinceni Puma #40 was present, with radar and Socat camo, modified to Vip transport configuration (probably as replacement for #03, lost in 2006):
