ILA Berlin 27 May - 1 June

Post by BlackBird »

Received my first ILA mail with some nice news:

India will be the partner country at the ILA2008 and has announced a strong presence at the show. From 27 May to 1 June, in reply to an invitation by Federal Minister of Defence Dr. Franz Josef Jung, representatives of one of Asia's fastest growing markets will be organising an attractive combined national display at the International Aerospace Exhibition.

Most important facts at a glance:

25 Indian companies will be presenting their displays in an area covering 1,200 square metres

Among the exhibitors: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bharat, ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation), DRDO (Defence Research & Development Organisation) and India's aerospace association SIATI.

Among the displays: single-jet-trainer HJT-36 "Sitara", lightweight civilian and military helicopter "Dhruv"
The Suryakiran (Sun Ray) aerobatics display team of the Indian Air Force :D

High-ranking delegations from politics, business and the military

President of the German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI)
Dr. Thomas Enders: "We are very pleased that India has accepted the offer to be our partner country at the ILA2008. India is one of the world's most dynamic economies and one of the biggest growth markets in the aviation sector. ... The ILA is offering Indian companies an opportunity to show their products and services at a major European exhibition for the first time. We are proud and very glad to be welcoming India as our partner country at the ILA in May."

This also would be my first time at ILA.

A groundplan can be found here: http://www.ila-berlin.com/ila2008/downl ... plan_e.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

According to Google Maps the upperside of this map should be north-west.
So lightconditions should be good.

The sun should be in your back, crowd line was very populated last time, a small stepladder could be useful, in front of some parts of the crowd line their are static/flying display aircraft positioned. some display aircraft are taxiing near (in front of) the public. Distance to the display line is regular distance.
My experience at last ILA was a good one except for the weather.
And as usual at tradingshows the static was dramatic.

Hope this helps.

Su-30?

Post by Ries »

If India is the Partner Country of the ILA, wouldn't they also be sending Su-30's this way? I missed them in Waddington last year... hope to see them in Berlin. Does anyone know if they come to ILA?

Last year they were on an excercise at Waddington.

Since there is no excercixe sheduled this year, I'm affraid they won't be at ILA.

The 2006 edition saw an tactical demonstration performed by German Army and Air Force assets. one of the highlights was the formation of 10 CH-53's and six Tigre's they operated out of another airfield, but I forgot which airfield. I know several spare aircraft were noted over there. Does someone remember which airfield in the vicinity this was?

The fixed wing aircraft operated out of their homebases i thought....

Hopefully they will do it again that tactical demo, finally some German action at an airshow.

Anyone with additions corrections?

They operated from Berlin-Tegel (I saw 10x CH-53, 4x Tiger UHT and 1x French Tigre HAP there)

I'm pretty sure the Tornado's were flown from a nearby airbase (Holzdorf??). And didn't the Typhoons and F-4Fs take off in front of the crowd at Schonefeld?
