Airshow Leon (Spain) 11 June 2017

Post by ehusmann »

Due to the 25th anniversary of the academy at Leon an airshow will be helt on 11 June. Page says international participation is still to be confirmed, but at least Team tequila uh, Aguila will be there, Team Aspa, as well as F-18, Eurofighter, Cl.215 and Tiger.
And not to forget, quite a few relics...

The list has grown a little again: C-212, C-295, C-130 and A400 added. As well as "El Gabinete del JEMA", not sure how that will be translated into an airshow participation...

Not a very big show, and unfortunately the hangars and most of the preserved planes on base were off limits. Nevertheless, it was worth it. My biggest goal of the day at least was met, reading the Mirage F1M construction number!

Hi Erin,

Nice log, thanks! And thanks also for checking c/n's.
Regarding that Mirage F.1, where did you actually read the c/n? It looks like a build number maybe, since it is more or less the same as the serial? This one used to be stored at Albacete by the way, are you sure it is an instructional one?
Cheers,

Plate was in the port wheel bay, judging by the plate iself, it really is the c/n, not a build number:

And indeed it was stored at Albacete, but recently the seem to be leaving there quite fast. One is preserved now near Madrid, one near Torrejon and one near Malaga.
All mentioned as i/a were outside, but together and advertised as part of the academy. It could be here only for the show, but I believe it is just a new arrival.

I would be less sure about the c/n of the Mirage F1; have checked a few of them in the past and have found the port side plate to list the air force serial; i.e. Ecuadoran and Moroccan F1s list the air force serial number on this plate; it seems to be the case here as well; the plate with the c/n may be located in the aft nose wheel door, refer Scramble wiki, or not be present at all. Just my two cents.

Didn't see anything there I must say. Checked all wheel bays and doors.

A few additions from my notes,
Civil ramp
EC-HYX/403-06 Yak 52 false marks obviously but ex DOSAAF
12992/EC-MAB L-19E ex Italian Army
Main gate
Visible behind the T6 the preserved F4C assume C.12-01 could be seen
Static
UR.01-06 Searcher drone
Hangar
MIRAGE F1M with no code on nose assume C.14-14 as per photo on Eurodemobbed.
I didn't see the wrecked F5 however.

Looking at the pictures of Erwin and the Scramble-wiki of the c/n plate, it would seem that Erwin's conclusion is correct... as these are the only ones pictured in the wiki.

Checking the wiki, there should be two plates in the left wheel bay. One as shown above, the other with the fuselage number. That's this one:
Image

Now I am no expert on Mirage F1 c/ns, so I will refrain from saying what is correct, I do not know. All I know is these are the only two plates found on the plane and they match the description in the wiki.

The SRF-5 was behind the very last building in which also the Guardia Civil is housed. It was only a fuselage, but there was also what seemed to be a Do.27 half on its side. I don't know which that one is (maybe L.9-9).

Re preserved F-4C C.12-01 I confirm that's the one; coded 121-01
On the grass between the F-4 and the T-33s was Casa 101 'E25' coded 44-01.

No problem walking there, behind an elderly Spanish chap...
