The integration of Northwest into DELTA is proceeding in Summer 2009. The route ATL-AMS-ATL is a good example of the increasing cooperation between the two airlines:

ATL-AMS-ATL is a DELTA flight, but will be operated by a Northwest A330-300 aircraft. Both airlines will place their flight codes on the route.

Atlanta - Amsterdam NW A330-300 ops. DELTA flight - DL838/NW5838 codeshare
Amsterdam - Atlanta NW A330-300 ops. DELTA flight - DL839/NW5839 codeshare

This will be the first NW transatlantic route to AMS in years without a KL flight number.

For Summer 2009, DELTA has decided to drop its B767-300/B757-200 flight from JFK - Amsterdam - JFK.

Skyteam will continue to see KL/NW 3x daily on the route in competition with BA Open Skies.

United Airlines

According to the slot allocation list United Airlines will downgrade the AMS-IAD service from B777-200 to B767-300ER.

So in summer 2009 United will operate two daily B767-300ER's (IAD and ORD) to AMS.

KLM continues to adjust its Summer 2009 timetable to the new economic reality.

For example the AMS-ORD-AMS route will operate as follows:

- Febr & March 2009 = 5x/weekly
- April & May 2009 = 6x/weekly
- June -> Sept 2009 = daily
- October 2009 = 6x/weekly

The ORD route has been operated daily by KLM's B747 since 1972, after the launch of the route in 1971 with DC8-63. Chicago was awarded to KLM as a present to NL by President Nixon when he toured Europe in 1971 but could not visit the Netherlands.

KLM had requested landing rights in LAX for years, but wasn't awarded LAX until 1979.

Japan Airlines will reduce the amount of cargo flights to AMS. The Saturday flight will be cancelled from late March.

Daily passengerflight will remain by B772 (although might occassionally see B77W/B744).
Wednesday/Friday cargoflight (Nightly operations) and Sunday (daytime) will also remain.

Cargoflights all by B744F (74Y). All B742F are retired by now.
