Spotting visit @ AMS

Post by Screamfeeder »

Hello everyone. I`m going to AMS in a 2-day spotting trip next february 18th and 19th. I´ll be staying in a hotel in Hoofddorp. Is it easy to get to the spotting point near the Polderbaan from Hoofddorp? Is anyone going to be there in those days? Thanks and regards from Barcelona.

You have to walk or rent a bike.

Unless you are a marathon runner I would forget about the walking part. The polderbaan is always (doesn't matter where you are coming from) a minimum 4km distance away.

cheapest way would indeed be to rent a bike otherwise you need a car for the polderbaan. There are plenty of maps aroud to show you were to go.

Thanks, guys. I´ll be finally staying at the Courtyard Hotel in Hoofddorp. Does anyone know it? Is it OK to go spotting from there to the Polderbaan by bike?

Thanks again.

Piece of cake, Courtyard lies almost direct to the road to the main spotting places along the Polderbaan
5 min by bike, 15min by foot.

Here ya go:

The two yellow spots are spotting places. You only have to follow the the blue line.

Oke, In english then (my english is very bad, so I'll try)

Delta12 wrote in his post the kaagbaan. He was making a fault, he ment the polderbaan, I said that to him an he apologized for his fault in his post.

You understood right, your hotel is near the polderbaan, the spottersplace at the kaagbaan is closed for about a month now, delta 12 wishes that the place was still open so he can be there, the spottersplace near the kaagbaan was much more beautiful (?) than de newest place by the polderbaan.

Thanks again. On monday i´ll be there anyway. Maybe i will come back when the spotting place at Kaagbaan opens in summer. How about the Panorama Terrace at AMS? Does it deserve a visit?

did I miss something. the spottersplace at the kaagbaan is closed en will not be opened ever again

at the panormaterrace you can walk between the gates D, E and F, but only above the terminal, not above the gates. you can also see starts and landings at the kaagbaan and the alsmeerbaan, but the distence is very longbetween the terrace and both lanes. Also yo can see the traffic that comes from the polderbaan as well, but for this the same, the distance is long.

The spots Delta 12 marked are number 15 and 16 on the overview of ALL current spotting locations for Schiphol. For all other spots check "Where to go"/ "Airfield guide" on this website. Also gives tips on how to reach the spots, including public transport. From Hoofddorp station, for instance, you can take the train to Schiphol Central but also busses. And, of course, renting a bike is a safe and cheap way to go around (although you will find that Schiphol is a HUGE place to cycle around  )

Have fun and share some of your thoughts on your visit here! Always interesting to read what foreign visitors think of spotting at "our" homebase.
