This was a hook skip the 1, 2, 3 wire… destroy the 4 wire in max afterburner on a low visibility day #FlyNavyhe hit hard so the hook momentarily shot up
and skipped over the 1,2,3 wires.
As that was happening the jet was in max afterburner accelerating (pilot response to coming in a little low)
but instead of flying away the tailhook snags the 4th wire
with way too much speed which will damage the arresting mechanism
The hook hit hard and skipped over three wires
and then eventually caught the four wire
so by that time the jet had accelerated so much
and was at a speed where it can damage the arresting gear system.
Nothing major, it was up and running soon thereafter
