Scramble 335 will be out in a couple of days

Post by jurgen »

A lot has happened since we published our first Scramble in English in January 2007. In general the decision was welcomed by our subscribers and the foreign (not Dutch) subscribers in particular. We hoped for an increase in the number of subscribers and this has come true. The road to this decision was long and carefully planned but we also make mistakes.

Our questionnaire clearly stated that the Military Updates section was read by the least number of people but valued among the best. Therefore we moved this section from the magazine to a downloadable PDF file containing more info and more pictures. A lot of our subscribers talked to us as they had difficulty finding the PDF on the website and preferred to have the updates in the magazine. As we want to make the best magazine possible we listen to our readers, so STARTING SCRAMBLE 335 THE MILITARY UPDATES ARE BACK IN THE MAGAZINE! The format will be a bit different as it will be integrated in the news.

This does not mean the on line PDF is something of the past. We believe the PDF offers a lot of opportunities and will be available every month as well. In a future issue we will show you the advantages of the PDF and how it will ease your search for registrations on your own computer.

More good news: We have lowered our subscription fees for all new subscribers! About a year ago we started putting little adds on our website. At the time we promised that the revenues would all go to the subscribers. And this is what we are doing now. So if you take up a subscription or renew your subscription you can profit from the lowered prices. Those who are in the middle of a two year subscription have already taken advantage for the special price for that deal and will get an ever better deal next year!

Normally we mention our books and other shop items at the bottom of this mail, but this one is to good to be true.
If you are a little bit into Wreck and Relics you must have heard the name Andy Marden, author of USA Military Out Of Service, World Military Out Of Service, several other publications and editor of 'Out of Service' with our friends at MAR. But you must have also heard the name Otger van der Kooij, author of the 2nd and 3rd Edition European Wrecks & Relics and he is the Scramble W&R editor. What if these two guys got together and make one publication of all Wrecks & Relics AND Warbirds in Europe? Consider it done! In a couple of weeks European Military Out Of Service will come from the printers and be the standard work for all you old plane lovers! Over 500 pages, full colour, hard back and for a price.... wow!

In this month's edition we have special features about:

-21st CAVALRY BRIGADE (AC)
This Fort Hood (TX) based unit is responsible for training all AH-64D units and before that it was involved in the AH-64A and OH-58D training. Joris Heeren gives a detailed overview of all units trained so far.

-AIR ATLANTIQUE CLASSIC FLIGHT
Heritage is a great thing and we should be grateful to organizations like Air Atlantique Classic Flight who please our eyes and ears by participating at many venues with their aircraft. A twelve page article with the history, current situation and all the aircraft which ever served this great flight.

-AIRFIELD GUIDE - GEILENKIRCHEN
Another one in this great series. Well known for the presence of the complete NATO AWACS fleet and a regular detachment of two USAF KC-135s. There are several spots to log and photograph the aircraft.

-DER'E AL-JAZEERA 8
TLP Middle Eastern style! No French Mirages and Greek F-16s, but UAE Mirages, Bahraini F-5s and much, much more. This fairly unknown exercise was held for the eights time.

Do not forget to download the Military Updates at http://www.scramble.nl/members/index.html Twenty six pages with info on 41 countries.

Our monthly returning topics:

-Movements and trips Netherlands, Belgium + Rest of the World, civil and military;

-Aircraft mishaps in Dustpan and Brush;

MEET THE SCRAMBLE EDITORIAL TEAM

First chance this year is on 14 April 2007 at the Dutch Spotters Convention at Rotterdam Airport. In the terminal building dozens of booths will be put up with slides, photos, videos, books, magazines, DVDs/CDs, postcards, aircraft models and many other aviation related collectibles. Also other aviation societies and aviation companies will be present. Finally - to be confirmed - tours over the apron and runway of the airport will be organised. Meanwhile the airport restaurant is an excellent location to socialize with friends and fellow enthusiasts, enjoying a cup of coffee and/or a sandwich. The convention is not only meant for aircraft spotters, but also for other persons interested in civil and military aviation. Rotterdam Airport, Airnieuws Nederland and Dutch Aviation Society invite all aviation enthusiasts to come to Rotterdam!!

Another chance to meet us and fire all your questions and remarks is the annual Open day of the Royal Netherlands Air Force. This year on 15 and 16 June at one of few Main Operating Bases left, Volkel Air Base. Lots of numbers, the sun in your back all day and the organizers have never let us down.

A very good intention that the MIL updates are available now both in PDF and in the magazine... (just my opinion!)

Also result that the editorial team took notice of the complains ! (I only mean the "complains" attached with an intention/reason for improvement...)

My compliments that they stay open for recalling some changes that were made atfer a lot of reactions.

A good way of co-operation between the editorial team and members/readers ...

Keep up doing the good job to deliver a very interesting issue every month ! :lol:

BR,

Robert
