Grupo 43, together with the FAMET unit BHELEME II, form AGRUMEDA, which in turn is the flying component of the multi-service Unidad Militar de Emergencias (UME).

The Spanish AF bought five P-3B from Norway in 1989 and it was planned to upgrade all five to M standard, however, due to budgetary constraints only four were upgraded, the remaining aircraft being used as spares source. On 16 December 2022 the type was withdrawn from use and will be replaced by C295MPA in the future.
