General

Montgomery Regional Airport/Dannelly Field ANGB is a public and military airport seven miles southwest of Montgomery, the capital of Alabama. Owned by the Montgomery Airport Authority, it is used for general aviation and military aviation and some airlines.
The Alabama Air National Guard's 187th Fighter Wing (187 FW operates a squadron of F-16C aircraft. The 187th Fighter Wing evolved from the 160th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron that began operating at Dannelly Field in 1953. During its history, the 187th and its predecessor have based several types of aircraft at Montgomery, including the RF-51 Mustang, RF-80 Shooting Star, RF-84 Thunderflash, RF-4 Phantom II, F-4 Phantom II and C-131 Samaritan. The Alabama Army National Guard also has an Army Aviation Support Facility on the south side of the airport, consisting of A/1-131st AVN (ASLT) with UH-60A and OSACOM Det. 5/AL SFD with C-12U.
Another reason to visit the airport is that the scrapyard of MTW Aerospace is nearby, about two miles west of the airport along US80. Some aircraft that will be parted out for spares fly to Montgomery Regional and are transported by road to the MTW facility. MTW Aerospace has many Beech King Airs, Beech 99s, 1900s and Metroliners, but also other bizjet and commuter types. Note that views of the scrapyard are hard to get from the outside, so you will need to arrange a visit in advance.

Layout

The airport has two runways. All aprons and hangars are in the northwest corner. Only the ArNG facility is located in the far south side.
