Norway RNoAF P 8A Poseidon roll out 640Roll-out first RNoAF Poseidon

On 9 July 2021, the first Luftforsvaret (RNoAF, Royal Norwegian Air Force) Boeing P-8A Poseidon was rolled out of the painting hall at the Boeing factory in Seattle (WA).

The P-8A, serial 9582, named Vingtor and in full 333 skv markings, is the first of five Maritime Multimission Aircraft (MMA) that were ordered by Norway in March 2017 at a value of USD 1,2 billion.

Scramble Magazine believes the serial is related to the US Navy BuNo, which should be 169582. The construction number is reported as 66110/8796. If you have more information on the identity of this P-8A or the other four P-8As, please contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The names given to the Poseidons come from the Norse mythology. The other aircraft will be named Viking, Ulabrand, Hugin and Munin. The last two names are currently in use with the two Falcon 20ECM from FEKS/717 skv. The Falcon 20s will be withdrawn from use when the final P-8A is delivered.

The first Poseidon is expected to be delivered to the new home base Harstad-Narvik/Evenes in 2022. It is already reported since late 2017 that 333 skv will move from Andenes/Andoya to Evenes with the arrival of the new aircraft. Andoya will become a sleeping base to be used during emergency situations.
