US South Korea mammoth walk 1 640No, it is not an Elephant Walk!

On 5 May 2023, forty F-16C/D Fighting Falcons, twelve A-10C Thunderbolt IIs, two U-2S Dragon Ladys, and three C-12 Hurons gathered on the runway of Osan Air Base (Republic of Korea) to perform a "Mammoth Walk".

The combined ability of 7th Air Force at Osan during this joint effort event included aircraft from both the 51st and 8th Fighter Wings, plus the 5th Reconnaissance Squadron.

Including OS and WP coded aircraft, this large aircraft generation "Mammoth Walk" training event demonstrated the wings’ rapid generation capabilities and response readiness to generate combat airpower.

Bringing the F-16s, A-10s, U-2s and C-12s at a moment’s notice affirm that USAF's commitment to the Republic of Korea remains strong and must ensure regional stability throughout the Indo-Pacific.

The 8th Fighter Wing is based Gunsan Air Base and controls two squadrons operating the F-16CM and F-16DM Fighting Falcon; the 35th FS Pantons and the 80th FS Juvats. The 51st Fighter Wing is based at Osan Air Base and also controls two squadrons; the 25th FS Assam Dragons operating the A-10C Thunderbolt II and the 36th FS Flying Fiends operating the F-16CM/DM.
