Mildenhall's Stratotanker "Wolff Pack" retires

On 28 November 2022, Mildenhall based Boeing KC-135R Stratotanker with serial number 63-7999 arrived as "Quid-13" at the 309th AMARG, also known as “The Bone Yard” near Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson (AZ).

The KC-135R, with tail 7999 and code D, named "Wolff Pack", officially retired from RAF Mildenhall (UK) after 59 years in USAF service with a retirement ceremony on 23 November.

While the KC-135 has been in use from Mildenhall for decades already, this was the first official retirement of a Stratotanker from the 351st Air Refueling Squadron/100th Air Refueling Wing based there.

Being in USAF service, the aircraft has flown more than 3,000 recorded sorties, racking up more than 15,000 flying hours.

It is expected that the legendary Wolff Pack heritage nose art, which was named in Robert "Bob" Wolff’s honour, will remain at RAF Mildenhall and be transferred to another aircraft.

Bob Wolff, now 101 years old, is a World War II veteran B-17 Flying Fortress pilot of the 100th Bomb Group (Nowadays the 100th ARW).
