US 73rd SOS AC 130J credit USAF 640"Just a nice Picture...!"

Seen being refueled by 6th Air Refueling Wing's Boeing KC-135R Stratotanker 62-3564 above Florida is Lockheed Martin AC-130J Ghostrider 14-5789 of the 73rd Special Operations Squadron.

In December 2022, Scramble Magazine wrote about awarding crew members of the 73rd SOS with the "MacKay Trophy".

With two designated units painted on the boom, hence Air Force Reserve Command's 927th Air Refueling Wing also being present, three Stratotanker squadrons are based at MacDill AFB (FL), operating both the KC-135R and KC-135T variants.

The 50th Air Refueling Squadron is part of the 6th Air Refueling Wing. Also based at MacDill are the 63rd Air Refueling Squadron which is a USAF reserve squadron attached to the 927th Air Refueling Wing and a reserve associate unit of the active duty, the 91st Air Refueling Squadron.
