Contract for Kamov Ka-52M signed

During the seventh Army-2021 International Military-Technical Forum, the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation awarded four and signed 41 state contracts with 27 enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex for the supply of more than 1,300 new types of military hardware for the Russian Armed Forces, as well as overhaul and modernisation of additional 150 units of weapons, military and special equipment units.

As stated by the Deputy Minister of Defence, Alexei Krivoruchko, on 24 August 2021, the overall value of the package of contracts exceeds 500 billion rubles (USD 6.8 billon).

The most notable contract was signed with the JSC Russian Helicopters on the delivery of upgraded Kamov Ka-52M Alligator assault helicopters, as announced by the company’s CEO Andrei Boginsky. A deal for initial batches totaling 30 helicopters has been signed for the years 2022 and 2023, with deliveries commencing after passing the state joint tests, which started in August 2021. This deal is the first part of the framework contract for 114 Ka-52Ms which was announced back in 2018.

The Ka-52M is an upgraded version of the known gunship, with the missile armament having been standardised with the weapons suite of the Mi-28NM helicopter. The most important weapon is the Izd.305 LMUR guided missile, a Russian analogue of the British Brimstone, which has already been secretly produced in small batches since 2016 and battle tested in Syria on few modified Mi-28Ns and Ka-52s. The Ka-52M is also equipped with and a modernised avionics complex, as well as the Rezets AESA radar with a fixed 900×300 mm antenna using 640 transceiver modules.

Many of the contracts are related to army or naval equipment which is beyond the scope of Scramble Magazine, but based on TASS data and press releases Scramble has compiled a list of other contracts which are aviation related (aircraft, helicopters, UCASs, missiles).

• Contract with Tupolev PJSC for deep modernisation of Tu-95MS strategic missile carriers to the Tu-95MSM standard signed by Deputy Defense Minister of the Russian Federation Alexei Krivoruchko and Managing Director of PJSC Tupolev Vadim Korolyov.
• Contract with the UEC for the supply of eight additional NK-32-02 engines for the Tu-160M ​​strategic bombers, with delivery completed by 2024.
• Two contracts with JSC RSK MIG for the rework of another batch of MiG-31 fighter-interceptors to the MiG-31K standard as the carrier of the Kh-47M2
• Kinzhal (Dagger) hypersonic missile, as well as overhaul and modernisation of the next batch of MiG-31 fighter-interceptors to the MiG-31BM standard.
• Contract with JSC Kronshtadt for the supply of five twin-engined Inokhodets-RU strike drones, also known as Sirius unmanned combat aerial systems (UCAS).
• Contract with JSC UZGA (Ural Civil Aviation Plant) for the supply of additional Forpost-R unmanned aerial systems, a Russian license-produced version of the Israeli IAI Searcher II drone. The Forpost-R is equipped with GOES-4 gyro-stabilized optronic system designed by Ural Optical & Mechanical Plant (part of Rostec), replacing the TAMAM Multi-Mission Optronic Payload (MOSP). The device comprises a thermal imaging unit with cooled 3-5 micron matrix, the television unit and HTEB.461321.011 the laser rangefinder/illuminator produced by Quantum Optics.
• Contracts with JSC Scientific and Production Enterprise Strela for the supply of two Platform and several Termit unmanned helicopters.
• Contract with JSC NPK KB Mashinostroeniya (Scientific and Production Corporation, Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering) for the supply of a new batch of hypersonic missiles of the Kinzhal (Dagger) aviation complex.
• Contract with JSC NPO Mashinostroeniya (part of KTRV) for the supply of 3M22 scramjet-powered maneuvering anti-ship hypersonic cruise missiles of the Zircon complex. These missiles shall be used with Russian Navy's Pr.1144 Kirov-class battlecruisers, Pr.11356 Admiral Grigorovich class and Pr.22350 Admiral Gorshkov class frigates, Pr.20385, Pr.21631 and Pr.22800 corvettes and also on modernized Tu-22M3M strategic bombers.
• Contract with JSC Concern VKO Almaz-Antey for the supply of additional batch of 3M14 cruise missiles of the Kalibr shipborne complex.
• Contract with JSC Concern Kalashnikov for new 9M333 anti-aircraft guided missiles for the modernized Strela-10 anti-aircraft missile system.
• Contract with JSC Corporation MIT (Moscow Institute of Heat Engineering) for the supply of a mobile complex of Sirena-M command missiles for the Perimeter nuclear strike system, well known in the west under the name Dead Hand. These missiles are based on the Yars-M ICBM and the delivery to the Russia's Strategic Missile Forces shall be finished by 2025.
