In 1958 these fighter aircraft were still referred to as FJ-3 Fury. From 1962, the type was redesignated to F-1C. Marine Fighter Squadron (VMF) 312, nickname Checkerboards, operated the FJ-3 Fury till mid 1959, when they were replaced by the F8U-1 Crusader. (photo via Dick Lohuis)
