Sanicole Airshow

Post by Zipper »

Hi...

Yesterday I was at the Sanicole Air Show in Belgium.
That's once but never again.
It's a nice event for families and so to have a nice day with the kids, but it's nothing for the real spotter/photographer.
The weather was bad, only 2 km of "flightsight" which meant that several diisplays were canceled.
However, that's something that the organisation cannot be held responible for, but even if the weather is good, you are looking into the sun ALL DAY!!!!!!!!!
Just plain terrible for taking pictures.
Flying display is at a "great" distance, so you need quite some mm on your camera.
So, if you wanna have a nice day of being on an airfield, sitting in a chair and see and hear aviation, OK, this is something for you!
But if you're going there to take pictures, don't do it, it's a waste of time!!!
At least, that's my opinion...

Grtz.

I was at Sanicole as well and my camera didn't leave the bag. However, it was not my first time at this show so I knew what to expect. I was wondering if it is possible to get to the other (south) side of the airfield. Looking at the bigger picture with Google Earth I see there is a road. Anyone here who can confirm it is possible to place yourself somewhere on this side? Or is this area military owned?

My first and last visit to Sanicole.

besides the awful lighting condition, the access road thru the military camp and the parking were a nightmare.

I believe this road is "militair domein" and forbidden to acces. But I'm not fully shure about this.
But if you're going there to take pictures, don't do it, it's a waste of time!!!
... and money I guess (tickets € 20,- )

I only made a lot of pics of the Team Guinot (of which too bad only one flew), the road I did like it (4WD Impreza  ) But too crowded, bad lighting indeed, sorry for the organisers a lot of demos were cancelled or cut short...

For entering the Texel Airshow in 2007 you had to part with 15 euros. And yes, that show has a lot of backlight too...
With all these rising costs we have to be glad if prices stay the same...

Buy your tickets in the presale, alot cheaper, 3,50 euros cheaper.

Yes, with Sanicole you have the sun in your face, as with Buurse, Volkel in de Wolken, Texel, and that's just the shows in the Netherlands, it's something you just got to live with.

Even in my city car I had a nice ride on the military roads. Parking was very close to the display area, most other organisers make you park further from the display area.

Weather is something you can't do anything about, if there was fog the whole show could even be cancelled. Despite most photos I took being horrible, mostly cause of the haze, I still enjoyed the show and got a nice tan for free. ;-).

I was there in 2004. A very nice show with a nice coloured German Tornado, an A-10,
a Harrier take-off just a couple of meters in front of you and a lot of other nice planes.
A very sunny, bright and hot day but the sun allmost the whole day in your face.
Very difficult to take a good picture, even with nice weather.

Parking itself was not terrible. But leaving the parking was really a nightmare    . The organization failed at this point.

Hmm.. glad I didn't went there then :-) But I must admit I was warned that the sun shines in your face the whole day and that the road on the other side is blocked when the airshow is held, at least that is what I heard.

Great shots though Roel :-) Shame I missed the A10. It wasn't on the NTM..... nor was the Harrier.
