Wonder what these grey smokers would look like in Croatian Air Force colours. If the Croatians accept that Germany offer, that is...

Hi Maarten, some nice shots there.

Can you share with us how many F-4's and A-4's went up that day? Or did you post a log already?

Thanks for the info!

Great pictures. Looks like many Phantoms flew without fuel tanks.

It's normal to fly without feultanks.
The missions are shorter to save feul and flyinghours!

Only the QRA flies with feultanks!

Awesome pics!

perhaps a bit off topic, but i would like to visit Wittmund this summer as i`m a humongous Phantom fan, and well.. normally my destination was Hopsten :(

Any regular Wittmund visitors know if they fly at certain times?, and if there are days to avoid?.

Also the activities there, how do they compare to the old days at Hopsten, last time i was at Hopsten 4 would be taking off, 4 would be flying overhead, 4 would be taxing to the runway (this especially true during the Greek F-4 deployment which i still have on tape somewhere), they would fly for about 40 min and come back, so you had a steady stream of Planes coming, going and taxing.

Any info would be great :)

Those days are over......
I think you should be happy with 10 different F-4's

And if the last time that you visited Hopsten was in 1993.....it will be rather dissapointing to be at Wittmund nowadays......

The answer to your questions is here:
http://forum.scramble.nl/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=69878

Translation: as from 10 January 2011, operations by JG71 will be concentrated between 09:00 and 11.30 AM and 01:00 and 03:00 PM. Exceptions are QRA flight and when night flying is being practiced.

Days to avoid; Friday afternoon (as with almost all German bases)

Stefan
