The chipmunk have been improved not just for towing gliders but also to start air force academy cadet's in flying role, so that's why they've received the new upgraded engine, then after they graduate they go to Beja to start pilot's training flying in epsilon and allouette 3, so to be decided if they go for fighter duty in which they go to the alpha Jet and later F-16B or patroler transporter duty or helicopter duty, the G-91 existed in Portugal in 3 variants and not 25 as said the G-91R4 that came during the war in the colonies from 66 till 74 and after FAP received the G-91R3 and the G-91T3 from germany to replace the aged F-84 and T-6G in attack role, Today FAP has alpha jet only for training with the epsilon fighter mission is performed by the F-16AM/BM, the patrol has been taken by the P-3C taking down the P-3P from use and the C-212 are beeing exchaged by the C-292

Hi Slowghost,

Welcome to this forum.
I take up the challenge of responding to your reply.[enter]
The chipmunk have been improved not just for towing gliders but also to start air force academy cadet's in flying role, so that's why they've received the new upgraded engine
From the Portuguese Air Force website:
It was used by the Air Force for elementary flying training. From the 30 units that the AF had, seven were selected for the towing of the AFA gliders, which involved several modifications. Those modifications included a more powerful engine (145 to 180 Hp), new brakes, new radios, transponders, anti-vrille fins, and the painting with the original colors of the AF instruction, with the emblem and inscription of the Air Force Academy.
then after they graduate they go to Beja to start pilot's training flying in epsilon and allouette 3
TB-30 Epsilons are based at Sintra, not Beja.
the G-91 existed in Portugal in 3 variants and not 25

Also on this base you can find a Gina. During our stay in Portugal we saw 25 different ones.
Portugal did indeed use the three variant you mention, I merely stated that we saw 25 different G-91s (different tailnumbers) during the trip.
the epsilon fighter mission is performed by the F-16AM/BM
ok, that's new to me, and the rest of the world.
the C-212 are beeing exchaged by the C-292
Almost correct, make that a C-295

Slowghost, my advice to you would be to carefully read what is being written, and then respond accordingly.

Greetings,
Jurgen
