Forum rules
ImageThis is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum.
Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post.
In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.).

Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so.

What's the reason for this boat ride?
I heard that they are rotating from their SFOR mission in Kosovo back to the States.

In the Antwerp-docks they wille be "sea'shipped.

This morning no sign of a vessel to pick-up the goodies. Rotation is every aprox. 9 months. First a group is shipped to Antwerp en then via the Rhine to Coleman. There they are processed and prepared for flight. After that they are flown to southern Germany for add-on excercises after which they travel to Kosovo. The other group is then brought back to Coleman where the are prepared for shipping and transported by road to the earlier mentioned location where the are put on a roro vessel. This travels again to Antwerp en there they are collected for shipping back the ConUS.

In the past AK examples have been flown in to Ramstein, which then went on to Coleman, where the route is followed as mentioned above. Graz is always used as stop when the Blackhawks are flown from/to Kosovo. Check http://www.spotterteam-graz.at/mainfram ... ?year=2010" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. for movements.

I think the next exchange will be somewhere Februari/March next year.

Jeroen

A small correction:
SFOR was the name of the former NATO mission in Bosnia
KFOR is the name of the still ongoing NATO mission in Kosovo

Actually, it was already common practice during the annual REFORGER exercises in the Cold War era.
