Linköping Garnisonensdag 2009

Post by Flygvapnet_Viggen »

Hej hej!

Yesterday (Sat 12 Sept) it was Open House at the Linköping Regiment, located at Linköping-Malmen airbase in Central Sweden. It was a small open house with a few air displays among which where Team 60 (one of their two shows this year), one JAS39 Gripen from Försökcentralen (defence force test unit), one Hkp9 demo and the Flygvapenmuseum's Saab B17. Unfortunately, the shows where performed directly in front of the sun. This however also made opportunity for special pics while facing the sun.
Besides, there was a small static on the platforms including Flygvapnet's S102B, S100D, Hkp9, Hkp15 and the new Hkp14's! Moreover, from the Swedish Armed Forces Test Unit (also based at Malmen) a JAS39C Gripen, Hkp4 and Tp86 Sabreliner :P were presented. Additionally, seats where drawn in a lottery which made that during the afternoon several passenger flights were carried out by Hkp15s, Tp100C and Sk60.
A small but pleasant day, with the highlights for me being the new Hkp14s and Tp86!

Enjoy the photos and don't hesitate to comment! :!:

#1 to start with: the still operational Tp86! Crazy machine...

#5 maybe facing the sun is not bad at all...

Hi Corné,
nice pictures. Next year there will be an open day at Malmen, when I look at your pictures it looks like you had some backlight on the runway.
Do you know if you can stand on the same spot at the openday. Or will the crowed be on the other side of the runway!
Is it possible to take picturesfrom airplanes outside of this airfield.

Nice set of pictures.. Those Swedish helo's look mighty crisp and clean.. Do they fly with them?!? I like their matt paint schemes. Seems like a friendly country for spotting..(photgraphing)

Groet,

Hi,
very nice and clear pictures!

I see that you have also pictures from inside the hangars.
Maybe you could help me with a query I have

Inside the hangar 14, I saw 01540 in the open part, 04064 & 74 in another one and 3 Hkp15, 15022, 39 and another Hkp15A! Do you have maybe the serial for this one? That would be great!!!

Thank you very much :D
Marcus

P.S.: I have put a small log on the airshows thread

Thanks for the positive replies!

To answer a few questions:
@Rene: I wouldn't say some backlight but a lot! Sun was totally on the other side. Though they seemed to have a kinda curves display line but still, one was all the time facing the sun... And I would guess you will be standing on the same platform during the Opendays next year. It is the most potential location for static and stands and other stuff like an airshow. The otherside belongs to the Test Unit so I very much doubt if they allow public there and the north-east side is of the flygskolan but it also provides backlight and I guess they will have the air display teams standing there.
However, you can find a perfect spot from outside the base on the south-east side, just behind the dump.

@Andras: I wouldnt really say its a spotter friendly country. As usually one is not allowed to take photos of military installations. And often security is very curious when one is taking pictures besides an airfield even not looking towards the base or at an airfield like Stockholm-Bromma (not military).
Even at the Open House last weekend, while I was taking pictures from inside the hangars I was watched continuously with a guy at my side and was asked all the time what I was taking photos of and for what they will be used, or whether they will be published or are only for personal use... ... So despite the cracking paint schemes, you'd better watch it while trying to do spotting in Sweden!

@Marcus: I had a look through the windows of Hangar 14 indeed, but could only distinguish the Hkp4s (64 & 74) I cannot recall I saw any Hkp15s inside. However, when they pushed the Hkp15s back in Hangar 28 (as it says on it, to the right of H14) I could see and photograph another three Hkp15s: 21, 25 and 31! Unfortunately, I cannot complete your log only add some to your log ;) Also when they opened the hangar at the north side of the platform, where they locked in the Hkp9s I could see also Hkp9 with number 09.

Hope it helps guys!
Please have another look at the pics :P

Regards,
Wouldn't say this either... Almost got into a lot of trouble at Malmen two years ago. We were taking some pics of landing aircraft from inside the museum. Didn't take long for the police to reach us and ask dozens of questions. One of those questions was 'It is strictly forbidden to take pictures of the airfield. Did you take pictures of aircraft that were actually on the airfield, with buildings in the background?'. Our answer was 'Absolutely not!', thereby honestly forgetting that we actually DID take pictures like that. The security guy then started browsing through the pics on my memorycard. After twenty or so pics, he stopped. I took me a few seconds to realize the the 21st pic was a pic of a sk60 on the runway, with some nice buildings in the background.

At Uppsala we were checking out the Draken at the gate once, and the guard came up to our car (with us in it), walked around VERY slowly, stopped in front, took out his notebook VERY slowly and started copying the license plate VERY slowly. We were watching him all the time and could swear there was a little bit of an evil grin on his face.

Spottersfriendly? Not really! Very nice and friendly country otherwise.
Answers will be questioned.....
