Myanmar Airways International starts turboprop-operations

At the beginning of April 2024, Myanmar Airways International launched turboprop-operations by deploying its first ATR72-600 XY-AMU (1039). The aircraft was delivered on 27 March 2024 and was previously in use with Virgin Australia. It was phased-out by them in March 2020 and has, since then, been in storage at Melbourne, Mareeba, and Cairns before ending-up at Subang where it was prepared for MAI.

MAI is using its new aircraft mainly om domestic and regional routes out of Yangon. It has joined an all-jet aircraft fleet which is further made-up of four Airbus A319s, four A320s, and two Embraer ERJ190s.

Andy Davey photographed the ATR at Yangon on 10 Aprill 2024.
