Deutsche Aircraft plans firefighter D328eco

Deutsche Aircraft, which is planning to relaunch production of the Dornier 328, now called the D328eco, has announced its intention to offer its new aircraft as a firefighter as well. The manufacturer has announced on 13 October 2022 that it has signed an agreement with leasing company ACIA Aero Leasing. According to the press-release, ACIA will become the "preferred lessor" for the firefighting D328eco, including options for ACMI-constructions, in which ACIA will operate the aircraft.

The D328eco is a stretched and reengined variant of the original Do328-100. The aircraft is able to carry up to 43 passengers and operate out of runways just below 1,000 meters. It will be powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW127XT-S engines, which are able to run on Sustainable Air Fuel as well, enabling operators to operate with a lower carbon footprint.

First flight of the D328eco is planned for 2024, with delivery to the first customers a year later. The proposed firefighting variant is scheduled for 2026 or early 2027. It will be a multi-role aircraft, meaning the aircraft would still be able to carry passengers when not on firefighting duties. Deutsche Aircraft will also offer the firefighting conversion for existing Do328-100s.

Deutsche Aircraft has said reception of the D328eco has been very good but so far it hasn't been able to note down any orders. It does expect to be able to officially announce orders before the end of this year.

ACIA Aero Leasing is specialized in regional aircraft and currently manages a portfolio of six ATR42s, fifteen ATR72s, three ERJ145s, three DHC-8-400s, seventeen Beech 1900Ds, six Cessna 208Bs, and two Let 410s.
