Cathay issues RFI for new widebodies

The Cathay Group has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to Airbus and Boeing for offers for new widebody aircraft. The airline is seeking offers from the manufacturers for the A330neo, A350 and B787. A decision about a new order is set to be made later this year.

Cathay wants to use the new widebody aircraft to replace its older ones. Currently, the airline is operating 42 A330-300s, which are on average fifteen years old, and seventeen B777-300s, which are 22 years old. Both of these aircraft are used on international regional flights.

At the moment the airline group holds firm orders with Airbus for eight A320neos, 28 A321neos and six A350Fs. With Boeing, Cathay has open orders for 21 B777-9s.
