Cathay Group looking to add 50 new narrowbody Airbuses

With all Covid-19-restrictions lifted and the Chinese borderes reopened, the Cathay Group is experiencing a strong surge in customer demand for its airlines in the group. To be able to cope with this, the Group is looking to expand the fleet with 50 new Airbus A320neo-family aircraft. Ideally, Cathay wants to order the new aircraft directly with Airbus but as the earliest delivery slots available are at least five years away, the airline is looking to lessors to secure the capacity.

The news about these plans have been reported over the previous weeks by news agencies like Bloomberg and Reuters.

Currently, the Cathay Group is operating two A321s, and ten A321-200NXs with Cathay Pacific Airlines and five A320s, ten A320neos, eleven A321s, and one A321-200NX with HK Express. It has seven more A321-200NXs for Cathay Pacific Airlines on order, which are also the last narrowbody orders the Group has.
