1st B737MAX for Malaysia Airlines rolls out of paintshop

On 30 June 2023, the very first Boeing B737MAX rolled out of the paintshop at Seattle-Boeing Field (WA). The aircraft is a B737-8 9M-MVA (66439) and will now undergo the final steps before delivery to Kuala Lumpur.

The MAX is the first of 25 B737-8s the airline has signed leases for with Air Lease Corporation. All aircraft are expected to be delivered by 2026 and will be used as the initial replacement of its older B737-800s in the fleet.

Malaysia Airlines is currently operating a fleet of 42 B737-800s and has recently issued a Request for Proposals in which it asks manufacturers and lessors for offers for an additional batch of narrowbody aircraft. Next to the B737s, the airline also has nine Airbus A330-200s, fifteen A330-300s, and six A350-900s.
