Frank Noort Low Flying photography academy

Post by Melchior Timmers »

Hi all,

Last week, the first Frank Noort low flying academy took place. After months of preparations, the group of four pupils and the great leader himself left Holland for the journey to the Lake District in the UK.

Before the actual photography could start, the Monday morning was spend with several briefings by the members of the Frank Noort Photo Crew (FNPC). These included:

'What to eat and drink before/after the climb' - by Thijs, Food and beverage dept. of the FNPC.
'Trips and tricks for hiking' by Hopman Hans, technical hike specialist of the FNPC.
'First aid course' by Marcel, Medic of the FNPC.
'how to keep your mind straight' by Melchior, mental coach of the FNPC.
'how to photograph low flying aircraft', by the great leader himself.

After that, we went up the hill.

The great leader himself provided the course material:

Followed by a final instruction on how to use the camera gear:

Afer that, the course could start, however, also as a result of the vulcanic ash cloud, there were no flying activities on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Only Wednesday, spent on the M6 pass near Tebay provided some aircraft to photograph:

More to follow.

Great report! I guess Marcel had to fix the great leader after climbing uphill with that amount of gear. I saw him struggling last year with waaaaay less luggage :D

Not at all Mo! Due to the fantastic seminar by Thijs (Food and Beverage Dept. of the FNPC) we were all filled up with food and vitamins! Besides that Hans (Technical Hike Specialist of the FNPC) provided a in depth seminar about LowFly climbing.

I would like to thank Frank, the great leader, who made this all possible!

Grtz,

Marcel

Thanks to the great leader for facilitating this great opportunity!

To answer one question, after wachting the low level activities, a Guinnes will speed up your recovery. For other tips, attend one of the upcoming seminars ;-)

Image

Taken with ISO200, with 420mm on a 40D, the original was filled halve. One could stand lower to decrease the distance between you and the aircraft. But still 300mm is minimal required.
