Mil trip down the Med (Deci, Orange, Istres + more)

Post by Sjoerd »

Hi folks,

As some of you have maybe read in the "Spotting Europe" section, I'd been down the Mediteranean in October to get myself another proper dose of fighter violence and wokka action while the sun was still shining overthere. This all coincided with the STAREX'09 exercise at Deci, what off course was the main goal of it all.

Sundays swim into the ocean got cancelled due to this rather rare bird :bonk:

Finally bagged them.....!!
Image

And off course the 15's were there as well! :D
Image

But then the sun moved behind a thick layer of clouds...luckily the only ones I faced during the trip.

On departure from Cagliari-Elmas...certainly not the best shot of the trip, but I liked the angle
Image

But flying straight forth and back, from one airport to another, is old-skool....especially when one has more days left to spend!
In these current days of Ryanair, Easyjet and you name whatever cheap-xxx airline you can find, it is tempting and hard not to fly via back via another airport. I decided to take advantage of the other destinations Ryanair offered from Cagliari and ended up at Marseille-Provence for a stopover of 3,5 days.

And off course a bunch of flying boats

Thats it for now....more of France will follow shortly, but first it's time for a nap! :zzzz:

I hope you liked them sofar!

Best regards.

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the 2 aircraft? The first one has some kind of dish just in front of the tail section.. the second one doesn't have the dish..

Thanks for the comments guys! :)

@ Crizz, these shots are all from the outside. Some shots (mainly towards the base) are a bit cropped though, but all in all 300-400mm is quite sufficient from the outside. The main concern is/was...don't get in trouble with the law-enforcement. I heared from some guys that the Israeli's got a bit jumpy on the third day and law enforcers politely asked to keep out of sight of the base to avoid further problems.

@ Brian. What kind of processing did you do with your shots? Somewhat arty-farty-sketchy, but I do like the first one. Can't help you with your request though.

Here's another one, from Cagliari port where the ITN Guiseppe Garibaldi (551) was moored.

More to follow soon from France (Orange, Valence, Istres & Nimes).
