There are parallels with what the Argentines did with the Malvinas/Falklands. But in this case I can't see our "Jan Petertje" sending a couple of squadrons of our F-16's and a marines bataljon over therr to protect the islands.
Certainly. But Obama will be much more moderate than Bush was. The US is not happy with Chaves but it it very unlikely they will actually make a military move into Venezuela. They have much more to gain with the region being quiet as they already have more than enough trouble elsewhere (Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Korea). But Chavez wants to stir up things in order to become more popular in his own country and possible gain some extra powers. An (even if only perceived) external enemy is always a good motivation for new strict laws and more powers to the leaders.F17_114PM wrote:Do you not believe, that the USA is a "enemy" of Venezuela, under the current circumstances?
As if the US should have such a thing, they wouldn't use it against Chavez, Castro or OBL before heading for Haïti.michel N wrote:And the Venezuelans have got a sense of humour, or are incredibly stupid, as last week their ministry of information and communication accused the USA of triggering the devastating earthquake in Haiti with their new "earthquake-triggering" weapon....
So I guess the USA will use this highly succesfull weapon against Iran soon....

Sorry, but this story about Venezuela and Russia blaming an earthquake machine has proved to be another (admitted: brilliant) hoax. There are no verified recordings of either the Venezuelan information minister or the Russian navy making a statement of sorts. It's nice to see though how the Dutch Televaag newspaper amongst others have fallen for this cheap kind of journalism of copy-pasting anything found on the web. Must have been some Twitter account...
Chavez is an idiot and a danger to peace in Latin America, but him and his cronies are not exactly that stupid...
And exactly where was he quoted?? That this 'local?' US TV channel was fooled as well doesn’t make it truekiwi wrote:Here ya go. He was quoted.
If there is any coincidence it is surely not humanly invoked, but rather naturally related (seismic activity on a global scale) But I am no geologist so I have no clue whatsoever to make any funded statement regarding this.kiwi wrote: Here ya go. He was quoted.
And the Iran thing. Iran suffered a 5+ earthquake last week.. Not suggesting anything. But, coincidence? I think not!
