Will Indonesia take delivery of the F-15EX?
The Tentara Nasional Indonesia - Angkatan Udara (TNI-AU, Indonesian Air Force) originally planned to acquire eight F-15EX Eagle II fighters next to its 42-strong Dassault Rafale order.
Scramble Magazine reported on the signing of an order for an initial batch of six Rafales on 9 February 2022.
However, on 10 February 2022 the US Defence Security Cooperation Agency notified US Congress of a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) of 36 F-15IDs to Indonesia. The F-15ID is the export version of the F-15EX with the advanced AN/APG-82(v)1 Actively Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar. The USD 13,9 billion deal includes 15 spare engines and 9 spare radars and other parts and support.
Although the US State Department has advised positively, the sale is still pending congressional approval. So for now, it will remain a potential sale and Indonesia may not take the full package. Time will tell if they will really order the Eagle II.
In February 2021, Marshall Fadjar Prasetyo, Kepala Staf Angkatan Udara (KSAU, Chief of the Air Staff) of the TNI-AU disclosed that by 2024 a number of aircraft would be acquired. The overview he gave consisted of eight Boeing F-15EX, up to 36 Dassault Rafales, two Lockheed C-130J Hercules transporters and an unknown number of Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance Unmanned Aerial Systems (MALE UAS).
