USA USS Carl Vinson return 640USS Carl Vinson returned

On 14 February 2022, the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) returned to Naval Base Coronado/NAS North Island (CA).

A photo of the flight deck shows three aircraft normally not on deck when a carrier returns.

This might be connected with the landing mishap of a Lockheed Martin F-35C Lightning II operated by Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 147 Argonauts ('NE-4xx') where a number of sailors were injured and an unknown number of aircraft were damaged. The F-35C was lost over the edge of the flight deck.

To be seen on the photo are a VFA-113 Stingers F/A-18E Super Hornet coded NE-205, a VAQ-136 Gauntlets EA-18G Growler coded NE503 and a VRM-30 Det.1 Titans CMV-22B Osprey coded 34.

The latter might be the one that experienced an engine fire on 31 December 2021. Scramble Magazine assumes that the aircraft will go straight to the Fleet Readiness Center South West at NAS Noirth Island.
