USN E2D crash 640USN E-2D Advanced Hawkeye crash

Sadly one person died (out of the three onboard, two other crew members were rescued) after a US Navy Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 120 (VAW-120) Greyhawks ('xxx') E-2D Advanced Hawkeye (callsign Greyhawk31) crashed into the Chincoteague Bay near Wildcat Marsh, Accomack County (VA), on 30 March 2022.

The time of the incident was not clear but the Coast Guard received a call to assist around 19:30 hours local time.

They dispatched MH-60 Jayhawk 6004 (from CGAS Elizabeth City) and colleague Greyhawk40 also participated in the search and rescue efforts.

At the time of the accident the E-2 was on a routine training mission.

VAW-120 is a US Navy Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) responsible for training crews on the E-2 Hawkeye and the C-2 Greyhound.
