Sweden confirms acquisition of four C 390 Millennium and secures production 640Sweden signs contract for delivery of Millennium transport aircraft

On 1 April 2025, EMBRAER confirmed that Sweden had signed a contract for the delivery of four C-390 Millennium transport aircraft. The procurement process began on 9 November 2024, when Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) for the acquisition.

The C-390 will replace Sweden’s ageing fleet of Lockheed Martin C-130E/H Hercules aircraft, the first of which was delivered in February 1965. The oldest Hercules, serial 84001, was retired in June 2014. Currently, the Flygvapnet (Swed AF, Swedish Air Force) operates six Hercules transport aircraft, designated Tp84 in Sweden.

The C-390 has been acquired by eight countries: Brazil, Portugal, Hungary, South Korea, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, and an undisclosed customer. Additionally, Sweden and Slovakia have officially selected the aircraft to modernize their air forces.
