SATENA cease flight operations with the ERJ170

SATENA, the Colombian military owned and operated airline, has ceased operations with its largest type of aircraft, the Embraer ERJ170.

The ERJ170 entered service in 2006 and served for almost fourteen years. The type will be superseded by the ATR72. Being one of the countries hit hard by the pandemic, the declining demand for domestic air travel will undoubtedly have contributed to this decision.

Only two ERJ145s and seven ATR42/72s in service with the military airline after the sale of the only ERJ170. A second SATENA ERJ170 was already sold in 2013.

The Y12s were already retired in 2019 after an accident with the type. Next to that, there was no maintenance contract to overhaul the type.

The two ERJ170s ever operated by SATENA were FAC1180 (17000151) later also HK-4528 and FAC1181 (1700004) later also HK-4529.
