Portuguese Kamovs to Ukraine

On 21 September, Scramble reported on the replacement of Portugal’s firefighting Kamov Ka-32s helicopters by Sikorsky UH-60A Blackhawks.

According to ‘The Portugal News’ these Kamovs are now being offered to Ukraine. In 2006, the Portuguese Government ordered six Kamov Ka-32A11BC that were used by the Empresa de Meios Aéreos, S. A. (EMA), a State owned Civil Protection Service.

These were initially only used for firefighting purposes, but later also for medevac. The helicopters are registered CS-HMK (c/n 9901), -HML (c/n 9902), -HMM (c/n 9903), -HMN (c/n 9904) , -HMO (c/n 9905), and -HMP (c/n 9906).

Five of these are basically airworthy but not recently flown anymore while Kamov CS-HMO is said to be used for spares after it was written off on 3 September 2012.
