On 7 October 2025, the third Irish Air Corps CASA C295 arrived at its homebase Casement Aerodrome (Baldonnel).
With two C295MPA Maritime Patrol Aircraft, 284 and 285, already in operation with 101 Squadron, this new C295MW aircraft in transport configuration, with serial number 286, will further enhance the Irish Air Corps' range of services.
The initial contract for the supply of two MPAs was awarded to Airbus Defence & Space in December 2019, following an open tender competition. In 2022, a contract was started for one C295MW transport aircraft. These new aircraft, which were manufactured at the Airbus plant at Seville-San Pablo (Spain) airport, have now been delivered and partially replaced the two existing CASA CN235-100 Maritime Patrol Aircraft purchased for the Irish Air Corps in 1994.
The C295 Maritime Patrol Aircraft is primarily equipped for maritime surveillance and specifically for fisheries protection. The tasks for the sole C295 transport aircraft includes logistics support, transport of troops and equipment and medical evacuation.
