After the Exército do Brasil (EB, Brazilian Army) announced a possible acquisition of twelve new UH-60M Black Hawk twin-engine, medium-lift utility helicopters, the Força Aérea Brasileira (FAB, Brazilian Air Force) ordered eleven UH-60L Black Hawks.
These helicopters are sourced through the United States' surplus programme, Black Hawk Exchange Sales Transaction (BEST). This programme allows the US Army to sell older, surplus UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters and other equipment.
The contractor will be ACE Aeronautics LLC and the deal is valued at USD 230 million and also encompasses updating thirteen of the existing sixteen UH-60L Black Hawks.
The UH-60L, both the 'new' ones and the existing fleet, will be equipped with Garmin's G5000H integrated flight deck. Four large screens will form a glass cockpit.
