First batch of Mi-8AMT knock-down kits for Kazakh EMERCOM

The UUAZ Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant (part of the Russian Helicopters holding, part of the Rostec State Corporation) has delivered a first batch of two Mi-8AMT helicopters as knock-down export kits which are to be assembled directly on the territory of the customer.

The recipient country is Kazakhstan which will be using the helicopters with Kazakh EMERCOM, The Kazakh Ministry for Emergency Situations. This shipment is a part of the initial order announced in December 2019, calling for 17 knock-down kits to be delivered in the period 2020-2022.

The deliveries are based on a trilateral contract signed among the JSC Russian Helicopters, JSC National Company Kazakhstan Engineering which unites Kazakhstan's state owned defence industry companies and the Aircraft Repair Plant No. 405 (405.ARZ) established as an aircraft maintenance facility.

Next to the Kazakh MChS (EMERCOM), some helicopters from this order should also reach the Kazakh National Guard where they will be tasked with transportation of passengers and goods, emergency rescue operations, forest protection, firefighting, ambulance services and law enforcement operations.

The successful implementation of the semi-knock-down assembly project of Mi-8AMT/Mi-171 helicopters in Kazakhstan is a logical next step in country's plans to establish the local helicopter industry and expand the participation of Kazakh enterprises to increase their scientific and technical potential.

The assembly of the kits, as well as updates and adaptations to the customer's requirements will be carried out by the 405.ARZ located near the International Airport in Almaty, as the plant already has some serious competence in maintenance and repairs of the Mi-8/17/Mi-171 helicopter types, as well as a quite extensive service network for the whole Central Asian region.
