F-117A Nighthawk news
Following our extensive reports, including an operational deployment, on the USAF's Nighthawk, Scramble Magazine has now learned that the US Air Force is preparing to do a flyover with at least one F-117A over the Lockheed Martin's Aeronautics Palmdale plant on 18 June 2021.
This coincides with the 40th anniversary since the maiden flight of YF-117A, with serial number 79-10780, on 18 June 1981.
The past days saw a stripped Nighthawk being moved by a truck through the states of Nevada and Utah. The unmarked F-117A, which serial number is still unknown, is bound for the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum in Ashland (NE).
On 3 February 2021, Scramble Magazine wrote about this move. It is expected that the transport will arrive at its final destination on 24 May 2021. If funding and time permits, the Nighthawk will be shown to the public during 2022.
More Nighthawks are preserved in the US like Edwards AFB (CA), Wright Patterson AFB (OH) and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library (CA). F-117As were given to the Palm Springs Air Museum (CA), the Kalamazoo Air Zoo (MI) and the Hill Aerospace Museum (UT).
