C-17A mishap Charleston

On 9 April 2021, a C-17A mishap occured at Joint Base Charleston (SC). Whilst coming from Europe, 437th Airlift Wing C-17A Globemaster III, serial number 10-0223, experienced a fire in the main lefthand wheel bay.

The fire was probably caused by overheated brakes after landing at Charleston. Various footages on the Internet show that there was a lot of smoke and that the emergency services were quickly on the spot. Although the Globemaster is heavily blackened to the left, the total damage is uncertain. By the looks of it, it is expected that the aircraft will not fly again very soon.

The last known Globemaster mishap occured in October 2020.
