Singapore will acquire four P-8A Poseidon aircraft as the first step in the Singapore Armed Forces’ effort to modernise the country’s maritime security capabilities, the Ministry of Defence announced on 10 September 2025.

This acquisition is part of Singapore’s broader defence modernisation programme, which includes replacing older platforms, acquiring new submarines, and upgrading patrol and ISR capabilities.

The Poseidon will replace the five Fokker 50 Maritime Enforcer Mk2 aircraft that the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) has operated for maritime patrol since 1993.

The P-8A is a multi-mission aircraft designed for maritime patrol, anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), search and rescue, and maritime domain awareness.
