Romanian National Day 1 December 2018

Post by Freeman Lowell »

Saturday 1 December is a national holiday in Romania and 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the Great Unification.

Does anyone have any information on the flypast over the Arcul de Triumf in the north of Bucharest that day please?

In particular, the axis for the flypast.

Previous years have seen a flypast of 40-50 aircraft and it's not unreasonable to imagine this year's event will yield more.

YouTube footage of last year shows the parade running north to south from the palace towards the city centre with an approx. heading of 160-170.
No aerial participation in the footage though....

Thanks for the idea Joost. I have now found a clip showing the 2017 flypast, so I have a better idea of how close the aircraft are to the overhead.

A very cold (-10c) but calm start to the day saw us taking a taxi from Henri Coanda apt to Herastrau Park, Bucharest to watch the flypast commemorating the National Day.

Breakfast in the Herastrau hotel was disturbed by the three Mi-8/17s clattering out of Baneasa, indicating an earlier time for said flypast than we were expecting. Coffee finished, we were on the shores of the lake by 1010hrs to see the following fly down Soseaua Kiseleff and over the Arcul de Triumf:

The Puma Naval remained unidentified. So, if anyone has a better photo than us, please step forward.

We had been expecting some fast jets, but 4 x F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft missed the parade because the runway at the Borcea Air Base 86 (MK) froze and the aircraft couldn’t take off, according to the Ministry of Defence.

They did participate in the military parade at Alba Iulia (5hrs NW of Bucharest) later in the day, however …
