The NF-5s of 316 Squadron were temporary based at Volkel due to runway repairs at their home base Gilze-Rijen.
The Sikorsky CH-54A Tarhe is a distinctive looking twin-engine heavy-lift helicopter. In Europe, these helicopters were operated by the US Army's 295th Aviation Company at Finthen Army Airfield near Mainz. In the mid-1970s this unit converted to the CH-47C Chinook. The first Chinooks arrived with the unit in September 1976. (Frans van den Berk)
