Details are limited but confirmed it was T-6 from Nas Whiting Field and both crew were killed.

Potential Bu No was 166207 for this crash.

Both Crew have been identified by US Navy Officials,the instructor pilot was id as Navy LT. Rhiannon Ross of Wixom,MI and the other crew was Coast Guard Ensign Morgan Garrett from Waxhaw,NC.

Interesting and sad at the same time.

Aircraft flies to the west while slowly descending. It then starts to lose speed immediately followed by a turn towards the east. During the turn the aircraft loses more altitude and speed. Out of the turn the aircraft climbs again while losing more speed (trading airspeed for altitude?). The climbrate stabilizes with speed approaching 100 KTS. Final transmission shows 3700Ft altitude, 83KTS speed and high rate of descent (less than 15 seconds before a/c hits ground).

That speed and sinkrate are 'not recommended' for a safe ejection according to the T-6 flight manual.

Not wishing to speculate but seems loss of power/engine, with the crew unsuccessfully trying to reach nearby NOLF Barin. They might have chosen not to eject in order to try and steer their aircraft away from the houses in Mansion street.

Engine failure is being speculated on as the cause of this crash. Ironically there'a a NOLF at Foley with a runway of 3,700 Ft, enough for a T-6 to land on in dry conditions. The minimum recommended (or legal) runway in these conditions is 3,000 Ft.

A tragic accident.
