Video spam

Post by ehusmann »

Posting a new topic for every single video.
Using very subjective terms to grab attention (awesome, great, dream arrivals).
SHOUTING.
Advertising channels on youtube.

And nobody's watching (check the post views).

Come on Scramble, this whole video forum is a farce. It is only used to try and find more views for the videos on youtube. It generally has no news value, little spotting value. In other words, it has become an advertising forum. Spam.. Can you please quit this non-sense, or at least remove the topics from the "view active topics" list. I mean, the "your website" topics don't show up there either, why should these?

Thank you!

Erwin

Totally agree, the titles are just sort of very annoying click-bait titles

Same goes for the "look what I saw 10 years ago, here are my pictures for the 3rd time, click my website" phototopics.

This videospam is transposed from sites like EWAS to sites like FC and even Fok! forum.
At Fok! forum they quickly killed this spam off that was polluting the Defensie subforum.

Totally agree! Or we send all prospective contributors to a training course to rightly assess the spectacularity of their video, as to avoid "AWESOME SHORT TAKE OFF OF HAWKER 800!" and then see a normal take off at Antwerp airport. To name one.

As a videographer myself who also uploads video's on a Youtube channel, I do agree that this is not the right way of things. The amount of clickbait caps lock titles used is insane. Something I really disapprove is the use of the corona virus or covid-19 recently. It is so disrespectful to use this in the video titles or video tags while millions of people around the world are suffering badly. I agree that it is not necessary to make a new topic for every single video. It might be a better idea to make one single topic called aviation on Youtube or something like that, where everyone can share their newly uploaded aviation themed Youtube video's, just by replying on the thread instead of making a whole new topic. On the other hand I also would like to say that if you do not want to see posts like this, why not just ignore them.

Edit: I just found a thread like the one I proposed.

I do partly agree.

Indeed using click baits by using very subjective terms to grab attention (awesome, great, dream arrivals) and SHOUTING is very irritating.

On the other hand there are also some members who are posting really nice video's (without click baits) and even give some nice background information (like Alex van Noye).

Postings like above might discourage 'the good fella's' which would be unfortunate.

Perhaps the suggestion to keep new uploads from the "news block" on the homepage is not such a bad one. That way, you can leave the videographer the choice to upload or not, and the viewer the choice to look or not. I don't need a pointer to find a video if I want to watch one (here). Having said that, I would (and do) certainly skip the "attention grabbers" and the SHOUTERS.

Thank you for this kind compliment Blackbird :)

Personally I also like videos where more in depth is given than only an aircraft or helicopter taking off, writing the description is of the same value as the video itself. I also don't like shouting and give false topic titles in my videos.

Then again, if the video section is removed those spam video's will likely just end up in the photo section (I believe this was one of the reasons why the video section was created anyway)...

It sounds like every video is spam. Personally I try to report videos in which modern operations are shown in any military aspects. And also personally I believe video is very much underestimated compared to many poor photos which always have a positive feedback. I speak from my own experience when I say that making a good video is 1000% more difficult than taking a decent photo. Therefore I have more respect nowadays for video creators than for the average photographer. Without looking down on person's.

That's not how this was meant. There are good video's from people who try hard to create something that's well worth seeing (like yours) and there are clickbaiters like Erwin mentioned posting ==censored== that is equal to spam. Unfortunately the latter category seems to dominate the video section...
