Schiphol from the air during COVID-19

Post by Derice »

Recently I had the opportunity to make a photoflight above Schiphol Airport.
I had mixed feelings during this flight.
My blue heart always beats a little faster when seeing the planes from the sky, but today it also broke becaue they are just sitting there. Doing nothing.

Very impressive to see the (almost) entire KLM fleet grounded.
And not just that, the empty parkinglots that are supposed to be full with employee's and passengers cars.
The aviobridges that are disconnected from airplanes resting at the C-pier, the empty and parked baggagecars.
The overall peacefullness at the airport, no activity at all on the platform is to be observed.
Also the fact that you can fly around for 30 minutes, without any other traffic in the aera and even the frequency is quite.

A unique but strange experience, it's not how it's supposed to be, but still very special to see Schiphol from the air.
I hope that this crisis may end very soon!

The air2air with a departing KLM Boeing 747-400 was a bucketlist item that I had given up hope end of March. That this came to be, was a really really lucky chance!

Very impressive pics and vid Arnoud. Despite the sadness of the reason. I guess a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Thanks! It most certainly was!
I've flown over SPL before, but this was a unique situation. One flight to remember!
