How often do the Skyhawks fly? Everyday during the week or just a few days per week?

There are plans to rebuild Wittmund in the future beginning in two or so years. The following should happen:

- complete new runway pavement with new turning points at both ends
- taxiways
- approach lights
- ATC Tower
- maintenance and cleaning hangars
- new QRA area
- "tenpack" hangars for visitors
- engine test run hangar
- modified easterly HAS area

When this happen it will be the most extensive MOD of a German Military airfield ever since the building of Hohn air base in the mid-sixties.

The first MODs just started, the runway will be rebuild from 2022 on. The base should be closed from early-2022 until late-2024 for this.

3 years for just a 4km stretch of runway seems to be very long, i remember the runway of Leeuwarden was renewed a couple of years ago with a complete new foundation within 6 months.
They should call a Dutch contractor to do the job :D

The only area left in old condition will obviously be the maingate… :-)

Afterwards Wittmund will be the most modern air base in Germany.

3 years would be rather speedy, compared to BER ... (Hamburg opera, Stuttgart train station .....)

So let us take the 3 years as the theoretical target. Bets will be possible.

I may say so, being German :-)

..... and the Dutch are much faster and efficient with motorway repairs .....

Theres a petrol station with an F-4 on the grass. The nearest runway treshold from this place is where you should go. There is a small side road into the fields. Park in a way to leave space for farm vehicles. You can then walk towards a treeline where there is a mound.
